Learn Dressmaking – 2 Day Class

2 Sessions (6 hours each)
Beginners, Intermediate
In this 12 hour course we'll zip through all of the essential techniques you'll use time and time again in dressmaking.

From measuring your body and making alterations to demystifying pattern terminology, and of course constructing your very own garment!

At each step, we'll run through multiple options for each technique: different seam finishes, zips, and hems. You'll see there's never just one way to do things in dressmaking (and you don't always have to stick to the rules!). We want to encourage you to find your own personal way.

Good to Know
The course runs over 1 weekend, Saturday & Sunday 10am - 5pm.
We'll be working on making a skirt so you can see the magic of the techniques come together to make a finished and wearable item, as well as a sample book of extra techniques. You don't have to make the skirt for yourself, but please bring the measurements of person you are making it for. There will be options for different skirt styles. This course is great for complete beginners who have never used a sewing machine before or those who have basic knowledge but want some practical dressmaking guidance. You can work at your own pace, we have plenty to keep you occupied whatever your level. We know dressmaking can seem like a daunting prospect at first but it's easy when you know how! It gives you the opportunity to be unique and creative with your style. It's a great way to relax and unwind and make new creative friends. There will be an hour break for lunch from 1 - 2 pm. Materials & Equipment It is best to to bring your own fabric you will need at least 1.5m. A medium weight woven is ideal, this skirt will not work in stretch fabric.
We have a selection of fabrics and trims in the studio which you can purchase for a donation towards our tea and cake fund, but it's always nice to use something you know you'll wear.
Feel free to get in touch before the class to discuss fabric choices. The fabric MUST be washed before you use it. (A normal 30-degree wash is perfect.) If you would like to practice sewing on your own machine please feel free to bring it along.

A well thought-out class, it covers lots of facets of dress making, but using a skirt as a specific example, so that you can walk home with you first handmade piece of clothing after 6 weeks! Tracey was a great and patient teacher, and very good at juggling looking after 3 students who were sometimes working on different things, as some skirts progressed faster in some areas and then slower in others.
Also, the studio is located in the back of Tracey's garden so it's just the loveliest setting.
I only joined this because a friend was going and I thought "why not?", but found the experience so amazing that I've just bought my own sewing machine and started a couple of small projects already!
In sum: I would highly recommend this class, even if you're not sure yet whether sewing is for you and you just want to try it out.

I would highly recommend Tracey's class as it is very detailed and explanatory ,
She would make sure anytime that you'd fully understand the process behind sewing a zip or making a dart and so on.
The atmosphere is lovely and relaxing: feels so good to be able to stop thinking about hectic work and personal life issues for a couple of hours during the class!
If you'd start this course you won't regret it and you'll walk home with an awesome skirt !
