Make Sustainable Leather Slippers

All Materials, Guidance, And Refreshments
All Levels

Make your own slip-on slides from a selection of reclaimed leather and vegan materials. You’ll learn to shape and pin your reclaimed leather or upcycled vegan slide to the sole and handstitch the upper to the sole with waxed linen thread.

Good to Know

Experienced makers will be on hand to offer expert instruction and support. At the end of the workshop, you’ll walk away with your own bespoke pair of slides.

All leather is reclaimed from local factory offcuts, and there is a wide range of colours, textures, and patterns to choose from. You will use premium jute soles sourced from southern Spain, which are thicker, more robust, and comfier than any other espadrille soles, so you’ll be sure to love wearing your shoes.

Do Good, Feel Good

Reduce your carbon footprint by bringing back to life reclaimed leather offcuts or vegan materials and contribute to this social enterprise that employs passionate and local women.

Leave the session with your upcycled creation and a proud feeling for contributing to a more sustainable world.

The Venue

The workshop is held at Spitalfields City Farm, near Shoreditch High Street Station. In the warmer months and when the weather is nice, the workshop will take place outside in the kitchen garden. If it’s raining or cold, you’ll be in their lovely yurt with a wood-burning stove.

I love my gorgeous slides and Joanna and the team were fabulous hosts! The experience was really enjoyable, chatting with and meeting the other guests. The process of making itself was also surprisingly straightforward and really therapeutic once you get to the sewing stage! The only 'bad' thing is having to decide on a colour from the gorgeous range of material, so I am definitely planning on making a second pair 🙂

I went to the Queen of Hoxton workshop which is great - there's nothing like being able to tell people you're spending a Saturday making a pair of shoes in a Moroccan Medina on the roof of a bar in shoreditch!! I love my shoes and all of the ladies were so lovely, helping us pick colours, teaching us the whole process and even helping me alter mine a little to ensure they fitted me properly (as usually these kinds of shoes come up too loose on me) - my friends and I were a little slower than the rest of the group but Joanna and the women stayed to help us finish for an extra hour! Would definitely recommend doing this workshop, thank you Juta shoes and Creoate!

In love with my new, cozy and bespoke Vegan Slippers!
The workshop went by in the blink of an eye, but we all could finish and take home our handmade slides.
10/10 for the hosts that made sure that we were comfortable and having a nice time, shared their story and helped us with the techniques and advised us with the designs. I felt like a fashion designer for a day, and got so many compliments on my new shoes right away since I had to show them off for not having a bag ;) Thank you very much!

Really loved the workshop at the Queen of Hoxton! Everyone working was great, really patient and good fun. Amazing company with a great ethos and product!! Our group all left with shoes we love and are proud of, so thank you.
