I am a full-time textiles designer, inspired by Japanese textiles, specifically shibori (shaped resist dyeing), katagami stencilling and am just getting into a little sashiko embroidery and boro. I design and dye all my own textiles using indigo and other natural dyes and then use the resuting fabrics to make lampshades, art textiles, homewares, scarves and gift items. You can find out a bit more about me and my work on my website – www.romordesigns.com/about I have studied at West Dean college and in Japan in 2014 under the tutelage of Bryan Whitehead, internationally famous for his classes and passion for Japanese Textiles. I am going back to Japan in February next year for inspiration and to source stencils so I can teach katazome (Japanese stencil dyeing) as a new class in 2018. I currently teach shibori, indigo and natural dyeing classes at seven locations in and around London and run indigo dyeing experiences with AirBNB at my studio under an old railway arch in Hackney.
